These tender melt-in-your-mouth Holiday Butter Cookies are our family's favorite cookie recipe. This recipe is from my mother-in-law that she has been making ever since. My son loves to decorate these cookies a lot during Christmas Season and we enjoy the bonding. They are the perfect cookie to make for the Holidays and they get more buttery each day after they’re made.

Butter is the simple answer to making cookies that taste as good as they look. Butter makes good things better! Especially these butter cookies that are rich in butter flavor that will melt in your mouth. No other ingredient gives cookies the smooth texture, delicate flavor that real butter does.

    Ingredients

    • All-purpose Flour
    • Butter. It won't be called butter cookies without butter. You can use margarine or shortening but butter is flavor-pack and it enhance the decadent flavor
    • Powdered Sugar. It will never be a cookie with a sweet kick from powdered sugar. You can also use granulated sugar but sifted powdered sugar is the best for butter cookies.
    • Vanilla. Gives our cookies punch of flavor
    • Egg. Serves as binder
    • Baking Soda, Cream of Tartar and Salt

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make the dough ahead?

Yes! You can refrigerate it for up to 5 days or freeze it for 6 months. In fact, it is very important to chill the dough in order for the flavor to penetrate.

How long are holiday cookies good for?

In general, cookies will last for about three to five days at room temperature - if you store them in an air-tight container. They'll last for up to six months in the freezer.

    Why are my cookies dry?

The most common reason cookies are dry is too much flour and not enough butter. Over-measuring flour is a very common reason for almost all baking recipes to fail. If you scoop your measuring cup down into the flour container to measure, then odds are you're using too much. There are other factors such as the oven temperature and other ingredients as well.
