Apple Spring Roll (Apple Turon) is a delicious and popular dessert or snack that features diced apples wrapped in a thin pastry wrapper, typically made from spring roll or egg roll wrappers. They are often served as a sweet treat and can be found in various cuisines, including Asian and Western.
Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin strips or small cubes. Toss the apples in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes. It will produce some moisture. Drain the liquid moisture and reserve it to make caramel sauce.
Separate lumpia wrappers carefully. Be sure to thaw them if they are frozen. Cover them with a cloth to avoid drying.
Take a spring roll wrapper in a diamond shape and put some apple mixture about 1-2 tablespoons to the lower end of the wrapper. Fold the left and right sides towards the middle and keep rolling up. Wet the top edge of the wrapper with a dab of water to seal completely. Repeat the process until everything is finished.
Heat oil in a frying pan or deep fryer and fry the spring rolls until they are golden brown and crispy on each side.
Pour the reserved apple juice moisture from the apples into a pan. Let it simmer until it slightly thickens like a syrup. It should turn in an amber color.
Coat the fried apple spring roll with the caramel syrup. Serve while it is slightly warm and crispy.
Notes
Recipe Notes:
Maintain consistent medium-high heat when frying. This will help to achieve crispiness and prevent the Apple Pie Spring Roll from absorbing too much oil.
Make sure you're using fresh, good-quality wrappers, and handle them carefully to prevent tearing or holes that could let oil inside the apple filling.
Store the leftover fried apple cinnamon turon in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, you can use an air-fryer or pan-fry them in hot oil until crispy and heated thoroughly.
