This easy Sausage Goulash Recipe is made with crumbled Italian sausage, elbow macaroni, and lots of cheese on the top. It's a truly flavorful and satisfying comfort dish to make for everyone.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 pound Italian pork sausage
  • 1 medium yellow onion chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup broth or water
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce or tomato sauce
  • ½ cup sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • pinch salt and black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Cook the elbow macaroni in boiling salt water until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process and avoid sticking together. Do not overcook them.
  • In a skillet over medium heat with cooking oil, cook garlic, onion, and sausage together. Break the sausage into tiny pieces with a wooden spatula, and stir occasionally as it cooks. Continue to cook until the sausage turns light to a golden brown, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Pour the broth, marinara sauce, cooked elbow macaroni, and Italian seasonings. Stir everything until combined and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  • Taste test and adjust the seasonings with salt and pepper accordingly. Sprinkle sharp cheddar cheese on the top, cover, and continue to cook on the stovetop until the cheese is melted about 5 minutes.

Notes

Recipe Notes:

Optional. Finish cooking the goulash in the 350F preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
If you have leftovers, allow them to cool and transfer them into a glass container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
