Equipment

cast iron skillet

Ingredients

  • 14 ounces firm tofu cut in cubes
  • 1 cup cooking oil for frying
  • 1 medium yellow onion diced
  • 1 large red bell diced
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 wedges lemon
  • ½ cup green onion

Instructions

  • Fry tofu cubes in hot oil on four sides until golden brown. Transfer the fried tofu into a colander or a plate with a paper towel to remove excess oil. Get rid of cooking oil from the skillet leaving 2 tablespoons.
  • In the same cast iron pan over medium heat, saute onions and bell peppers in for two minutes or until they become soft.
  • In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, soy sauce, oyster sauce, red chili flakes, and black pepper. Add the mayonnaise sauce to the skillet. Let it simmer while stirring for 2-3 minutes.
  • Toss in the fried tofu and green onions. Mix until everything is well combined. Taste and adjust your seasoning accordingly. Serve while hot with rice.

Notes

Recipe Notes:

  • Texture Matters: Achieve the perfect sisig tofu by ensuring your tofu is well-pressed to remove excess liquid before frying.
  • Spice it up: Adjust the level of spiciness by adding red chili pepper or cayenne pepper powder. You can also add your favorite herbs and spices to play with the flavors.
  • Personalize your dish: Experiment with additional toppings like grated vegan cheese, crushed peanuts, or a squeeze of calamansi for added flair.
