Summer is here and that means that we need some cold and refreshing drinks to cool us down. This watermelon refresher is a great idea if you need a quick and easy drink that is full of flavor and color. You will not believe there is only 3 ingredients in this drink!
Why I think you will love this recipe
- Watermelon is affordable and always fresh during summer. It is always available in grocery stores during its season in the Summer months. You can also check another pineapple drink recipe.
- With its bright pink hue and invigorating flavor, this electrolyte drink is a winner.
- The ingredients are easy to find. You can substitute the juice with your favorites, such as coconut juice or lemonade. If you don't have mint, it's still as good as it is.
- It is super easy and simple to make. Grab a blender and blend watermelon with the juice. Pour the watermelon juice through a sieve. Discard the pulp. Mix in mint and let it chill in the fridge.
- It's healthy and nutritious. Watermelon is rich in essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, making it a hydrating and nutritious option. The natural sweetness of watermelon eliminates the need to crave sugar, making it a healthier alternative to sugary and artificially flavored beverages.
Ingredients
- Watermelon - During the watermelon season in summer, they are so sweet and tasty. We went to Costco and got a few big fresh watermelons.
- Juices - I use fresh lime juice and orange. These are flavor punchers for this refreshing drink.
- Optional Ingredients :
- Fresh mints - Mints have a cooling and refreshing taste.
- Sparkling water - It has a crisp, effervescent quality that gives it a bubbly sensation on the tongue.
Instructions
- Prep the ingredients. Slice up your seedless watermelon (little white seeds will blend up fine) into small cubes.
- Blend. Transfer them into a blender or food processor and blend quickly until they become puree. Be sure there are no chunks left.
- Strain. If you prefer a totally smooth, thinner drink, pour the watermelon juice mixture through a fine mesh sieve to strain out any excess pulp.
- Chill. Add mints to infuse, refrigerate to chill or add a cube of ice, and enjoy!
Variations to try
- Make it Sweeter: Add more orange juice, stevia, or maple syrup. Start with a small amount and add more according to your desired sweetness.
- Make it an alcoholic drink: Adding tequila or vodka can make this a boost drink. I love this drink during the afternoon to relax.
- Frosty - You can use frozen watermelon to make this a slushy watermelon drink. You may want to let the frozen watermelon leave at room temperature for a few minutes before blending.
- Add fruits - Add strawberries, apples, or pineapple to make this a healthier drink.
Storage Tips
Store your watermelon refresher in a mason jar or any glass with a lid in the refrigerator for a week. You can also freeze it for a long time. To thaw, move it to the refrigerator the night before or leave it on the countertop for a few hours until it turns back to liquid. Enjoy!
