How to make Honey Garlic Sauce
Making the sauce is super quick and easy to make with only four ingredients. Just mix these ingredients together until well combined.
- Honey - It gives a sweet and sticky flavor sauce to the meat. You can add brown sugar or maple syrup to substitute honey.
- Fresh minced garlic - The sauce is infused with a garlicky taste. You can add more or less depending on how strong a garlic flavor you prefer.
- Ketchup - Ketchup adds extra sweetness, tangy, and vibrant color to the dish.
- Soy sauce - It's a flavor enhancer and gives a savory sauce.
How to make crispy chicken wings without frying?
The secret ingredient to crispy wings without a lot of oil is your air-fryer! So simple and easy! And these wouldn’t be called honey garlic wings without adding a good amount of garlic!
You’re going to spice up to add flavors:
- Garlic powder - Garlic powder is milder and less pungent than fresh garlic. It is a versatile seasoning that can be added to a wide range of recipes without the need for peeling, chopping, or mincing the fresh garlic cloves.
- Smoked paprika - It has a smoky flavor that adds depth and complexity to dishes, giving them a subtle, savory, and outdoor-cooked aroma. It also has a natural sweetness from the pepper used in production that balances the smoked flavor making it a versatile spice that can enhance both savory and sweet dishes..
- Salt
- Black pepper
- In a bowl, combine the chicken wings, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Then coat the wings with olive oil.
- Preheat your air fryer. If your air-fryer doesn't have a preheat setting, turn it on to 400°F (205°C) for 4 minutes. Transfer the chicken wings to your air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd your air-fryer.
- Air fry these garlic chicken wings for 20-25 minutes or until crisp and golden brown, flipping them halfway through the cooking time.
- Transfer the cooked wings to a bowl. Add the sauce to the air-fried chicken wings by either mixing them in a bowl or using a brush to paint on until all the meat is coated with the sauce.
Pro Tip: Always preheat your air-fryer before starting to cook to ensure that your chicken wings are cooked evenly and achieve that perfect crispiness.
Cooking Variations
Deep Frying - Chicken wings can be deep-fried to perfection to get nice and crispy chicken wings. All you need is 2-3 cups of cooking oil at 350F. You can deep-fry them in batches and do not overcrowd the frying pan.
Baking - Similar to air-frying, baking your chicken wings in the oven will make them crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside without using too much cooking oil. It may take slightly longer to bake them than air-frying but it is similar in taste.
Make this your own
- Make it spicy - Add red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, or sriracha to your sauce to make it hot and spicy.
- Aromatics - Add more aromatics such as fresh ginger and onion powder to make it more flavorful.
- Sweet and sour - Make it sweet and sour by combining my 5-ingredient sweet and sour sauce with these crispy chicken wings.
